Il s'agit de la huitième scène du Vessantara-jātaka, dernière des vies antérieures consignée dans le corpus des Jātakas (Khuddakanikāya). Le roi Vessantara donne facilement ses deux enfants, Kanha et Jali, à Jujaka.
Ce texte de littérature locale du Lanna, intitulé Ka Phueak (l'histoire du corbeau blanc), relate la légende des cinq Buddhas. Ce conte est très populaire en Thaïlande.
